Fine porcelain with a durable vitrified body and hard, glazed, food-safe surface that resists staining and odour. Plain undecorated porcelain tolerates everyday use and the microwave, but pieces with gold, platinum, metallic or hand-painted detail must never be microwaved; porcelain is not for the oven or freezer and can crack under sudden thermal shock.
Care: Wash decorated pieces by hand in warm water with mild soap and a soft sponge, then dry immediately; plain undecorated porcelain may be washed on a gentle or top-rack dishwasher cycle.
Avoid: Microwaving metallic decoration; oven or freezer use; sudden hot-to-cold temperature changes; abrasive pads, steel wool, scouring powders, undiluted bleach, knocks and drops.
