The dinner plate is the canvas of the Riviera table — and in Baci Milano's Portofino collection, that canvas carries one of Italian design's most original conceits. This set of four fine Italian porcelain dinner plates translates the Ligurian coastline into a surface motif where the language of fine jewellery slowly dissolves into the language of the sea.
Pearl strings become bubble trails. Gold clasps open into coral branches. Ornamental chains rearrange themselves into shells. Sophisticated and radiant — Baci Milano's own words — the print holds both registers without tipping into either, designed at Casa Baci in Milan for a table that is dressed, never overdressed.
In Dubai, where the villa terrace and the formal dining room sit a corridor apart, a set of porcelain plates needs to move between both registers without effort. Portofino does: substantial enough for a long sit-down dinner, distinctive enough to anchor a table setting that needs no further decoration.
